Local Assembly Member Paul Davies AM has spoken out regarding the publication of the Welsh Government's 'Five Year Vision for the NHS in Wales'. The new policy outlines the Welsh Labour Government's "vision" for meeting the challenges of the NHS in Wales over the next five years. Commenting on this, Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies said, "It is disappointing to think that it is now the beginning of November and this is the first strategic statement on the NHS in Wales. Given that health takes up 40% of its budget, it is shocking that the Government has taken so long to publish this policy." "I am particularly disappointed that there is very little reference to district general hospitals in this vision. This was the ideal opportunity for the Health Minister to give guarantees on the future of district general hospitals and instead there has been ambiguous talk of 'responding to challenges'. Given the importance of district general hospitals in local communities, such as Withybush in my constituency, I will continue to press the Welsh Government on this issue and call for guarantees that Withybush hospital services will be protected."
