Preseli Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Paul Davies last week again highlighted on-going concerns regarding services at Withybush District General Hospital in the Assembly Chamber.

Mr Davies was chosen to hold a short debate in The Senedd on a subject of his choice this week, and chose the title "Watching Over Withybush: Why Services Must Stay Put". In his speech, Mr Davies highlighted the reduction of services that has already affected Withybush Hospital in the areas of orthodontics and histopathology.

Mr Davies also commented on speculation with regards to maternity services and neonatal units, and highlighted the concerns of both the patient watchdog, Hywel Dda Community Health Council, and the Save Withybush Action Team.

Commenting on his debate, Mr Davies said "I was pleased to have the opportunity to raise the concerns that many of my constituents currently have. I urged the Health Minister to give Withybush Hospital the support it deserves when she and the Welsh Government make their decisions in the future. I also called for a stop to what would appear to be a relentless drive for centralisation. I very much hope the Minister will fully consider the views of the people of Pembrokeshire."

"I will continue to fight for the retention of services at Withybush Hospital. The people of Pembrokeshire deserve no less. Travelling from places like the Dale peninsula, or St David's peninsula to Carmarthen or even further for treatment on the road system we have is simply unacceptable."
