A new report commissioned by the British Beer & Pub Association has shown that 51,000 jobs depend on the brewing and pub trade in Wales. The report also showed that the beer and pub trade adds £1 billion to the Welsh economy every year. Local Assembly Member Paul Davies said "This report has highlighted the importance of the brewing and pub industry to the Welsh economy." "Local pubs have an important role to play at the heart of our communities, especially in rural areas like Preseli Pembrokeshire. They bring the local community together as well as providing key community facilities for local groups such as sport teams. I have met with several local landlords who are concerned about the uneven playing field that there is in comparison to supermarkets; and this is something that I will continue to look into." "It is essential that the Welsh Assembly Government recognises the importance of the pub industry in Wales and does all that it can to support local pubs. I am pleased to be a member of the Assembly's Cross Party Group for Beer and the Pub, which meets on a regular basis to discuss the issues that affect the pub industry. Pembrokeshire has a wealth of fantastic pubs in the area and we must do all that we can to support this very important industry."
