Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has helped launch Community Pharmacy Wales' "Targeting Medicines Waste" campaign at the Senedd. The event aimed to look at reducing medicines waste in Wales and producing an enhanced service to the NHS and local health boards to help their waste reduction campaigns. Paul Davies said "I am delighted to support the Community Pharmacy campaign. Inefficiencies in the ordering, prescribing and supply of medicines are estimated to have cost the NHS in Wales £12.9 million last year and much of this is down to the lack of a sustained and systematic approach to waste reduction." "I hope that the local health boards will look at these services carefully. I have already written to the Chief Executive of Hywel Dda health board, endorsing the Community Pharmacy proposals. Having worked with the local health board last year on their Medicines Management Waste Campaign, I am optimistic that they will consider these proposals fully. I look forward to hearing the progress that the health board has made in waste reduction and their thoughts on this service."
