Paul Davies Impressed By Ramsey Island Beauty

L-R – Rhys Evans (RSPB), Paul Davies AM, Anne Smith (RSPB), Lisa and Greg Morgan (Ramsey Island Wardens), Emily Williams (RSPB)Local Assembly Member, Paul Davies AM recently enjoyed a visit to Ramsey Island accompanied by RSPB representatives.

This beautiful reserve is located approximately 1 km off the coast of the St David's peninsula and is an important site for breeding seabirds. Introduced non-native mammals are having a huge impact on seabird colonies on offshore islands across the globe, and in 2000 an ambitious rat eradication project was carried out on Ramsey. As a result Ramsey Island is now free of rats and mice which means that burrow-nesting seabirds can breed safely, and RSPB staff and volunteers on the reserve are working hard to attract puffins back to the island.
