Welsh Conservatives today welcomed the Assembly Government's consultation on new procedures to be followed when a school is earmarked for closure.

Just days after the Party published its call for improved consultation procedures for schools under threat of closure the Assembly Government published its long-awaited consultation documents.

Local AM Supports Bus User Surgery

Bus_Surgery_1Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has taken part in a bus user surgery in Haverfordwest.

The surgery, organised by Bus Users UK, aimed to develop communications between bus users and bus-operating companies and to strengthen the voice of bus users in the discussion of public transport issues.

Call for targeted funding for schools

Welsh Conservatives will today call for education funding to be targeted at schools, to help eliminate wasteful bureaucracy.

Figures obtained by the Welsh Conservatives show that 4% of school funding, or £102million is eaten up by Local Education Authorities.

Figures reveal that 2009-10 saw an increase of 38.8% in bureaucratic costs from the previous year.

Health Services in Pembrokeshire debated in the Assembly Chamber

Paul Davies said "I was delighted to bring this very important debate to the Chamber and highlight the shortfalls in health care that the people of Pembrokeshire face."

Local AM Supports Freedom Food Scheme

Freedom_FoodPreseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has taken part in the RSPCA's Freedom Food event at the Senedd.

The event aimed to highlight freedom food in Wales and to celebrate that there are now over 1,000 products carrying the freedom food logo sold in retailers and farm shops across the UK.

Freedom food is the farm assurance and food-labelling scheme set up by the RSPCA which ensures that animal welfare standards are met and that the lives of as many farm animals as possible are improved.

Local AM Raises Concerns over Business Grant Funding

In the Assembly chamber recently Local AM Paul Davies has raised concerns over the implementation of the Economic Renewal Programme and the impact on grant funding for businesses, with the First Minister for Wales, Carwyn Jones.

Paul Davies said, "I raised the issue of grant funding, with the aim of getting the First Minister to outline what support was available for small businesses who had applied for monies under the old system.

Supporting businesses of all sizes in Wales must surely be a key priority for the Welsh Assembly Government during these tough financial times."

Local AM Helps Community Pharmacy Campaign

Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has helped launch Community Pharmacy Wales' "Targeting Medicines Waste" campaign at the Senedd.

The event aimed to look at reducing medicines waste in Wales and producing an enhanced service to the NHS and local health boards to help their waste reduction campaigns.

Paul Davies said "I am delighted to support the Community Pharmacy campaign. Inefficiencies in the ordering, prescribing and supply of medicines are estimated to have cost the NHS in Wales £12.9 million last year and much of this is down to the lack of a sustained and systematic approach to waste reduction."

Health Services in Pembrokeshire on the Assembly Agenda

Mr Davies has been selected for a short debate on the 17TH November and has decided to focus the debate around local health services in Pembrokeshire.

The debate will look at a number of issues including the reduction of services at Withybush hospital, such as orthodontic services and post-mortem services.

Local AM Helps Launch Toy Appeal

Radio_Pembs_Toy_Appeal_1Preseli Pembrokeshire AM Paul Davies has helped launch this year's Radio Pembrokeshire Christmas toy appeal.

The appeal, which was launched at Narberth Rugby Club, aims to provide toys for disadvantaged children this Christmas. The donations will be split between Pembrokeshire County Council's Social Services department, Pembrokeshire Action to Combat Hardship (PATCH) and The Three Amigos toy run.

Lack of Mobile Masts in St Ishmaels could be dangerous AM warns

An absence of mobile phone masts in the St Ishmaels area has been dubbed as dangerous by local Assembly Member Paul Davies. The lack of mobile signal in the area is a major inconvenience for the local community, who are devoid of any chance of a quick response to medical emergencies.

It is also likely to have repercussions for the local tourism industry, as visitors may be deterred by the lack of telephone communication in the area.

Paul Davies said, "This matter was brought to my attention by my constituents at a recent advice surgery that I held in St Ishmaels. It is very disappointing to think that it is 2010 and there are still some areas of the country that do not have mobile phone masts in the local vicinity.

Labour-Plaid guilty of betraying Welsh speakers

Welsh Conservatives today accused Labour-Plaid of betraying Welsh speakers after failing to grant access to mental health services through the medium of Welsh.

In a vote on the Mental Health Measure, Labour-Plaid AMs refused to support a Welsh Conservative amendment, which would have ensured provision of mental health services for Welsh speakers.

Andrew RT Davies AM, Shadow Minister for Health said, "I am disappointed that Labour-Plaid AMs have refused to recognise equality of access to health services through the medium of Welsh.
